A Prayer Message: Which Will You Choose?

Even Christians, who know and love God, are faced with the battle between fear and faith. Fear is an all-consuming negativity. In the words of Henry W. Wright: “Fear means being afraid, scared, worried, anxious, and concerned that a bad thing is going to happen. It is projecting into the future. Fear, then, is the opposite of faith! Fear and faith are equal in that they both project into the future and both demand to be fulfilled. The bottom line is: which authority are you going to listen to?” (A More Excellent Way - Page A-8)

Think about it. To “have faith’ in fear, is to trust the devil’s prediction of what will happen in your life instead of God’s promises. This trend welcomes you to a life of fear, of being afraid to step out, of always believing the worst. You are what you believe. You become like the one you trust. If you trust more in the fear of failure you will never step out, never dare to dream, never have expectation of good things. You will live in the prison that your mindset has created for you, with a little help from satan who is excited to have you there! Maybe you have made mistakes in your past and the devil eagerly reminds you of those things with pangs of guilt, shame, unworthiness? From the devil’s point of view that is a great place to be…a place of stifled growth, eventual decay and death!

On the other hand, to trust in God and the promises of His word is to welcome life, to dare to dream, to grow in the excitement of what the Eternal, All Knowing God, has to offer. To trust in God, means having faith that He will direct your steps, will be your provider, and will enable you to be all that you can be. This is a place of expectation, of growing trust and knowledge in God, of being willing to take risks, a place of freedom. As you focus on God’s word, you will begin to have the mind of Christ, coupled with His peace and confidence.

Psalm 19: 9 (Amplified) says: “The (reverent) fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.” Some other versions of Psalm 19:9 use the word “pure” instead of “clean”, but the meaning is undeniably the same. Wouldn’t you rather enjoy the clean fear of the Lord any day over the gut-wrenching filth that the devil wants you to be bound up in?

Many of us want those around us, to know God and to experience His power. As we submit our lives totally to God, fears and all, and bask in His word, we will allow the healing to be released first in us, so that His prefect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). Then we will experience a new freedom and authority from God, and be a testament of His abundant life to those in darkness.

As you read this, you may be aware of fears that God is exposing in your life today; don’t ignore what He is showing you. God can deliver you from all your fears: “I sought the Lord, and He answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.” (Psalm 34: 4) “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18) The choice is yours today; will you trade bondage for freedom and watch the promises of God come to pass in your life? With God, you can do it!
