A Prayer Message: There's a Giant in the Land

The knowledge of God’s word, worship and prayer, go hand in hand. The more we discover about God’s character, the more we want to worship Him, not just with our voices, but with our lives. Consequently, it becomes easier to pray with confidence believing that what we have asked He will grant, because we know our God (1John 5:14). Then life becomes an exciting adventure, not a religious set of do’s and don’ts!

When it comes to prayer, our mindset does affect the outcome. So often, we know what God’s word says, but somewhere inside there is a “but”, and it is that simple little three lettered word that gives way to doubt; enables the enemy to loom his fears over us, creating giants in our path, that multiply and stifle our growth.

With our physical bodies, the more regularly we exercise, the easier that discipline becomes. Our bodies become stronger and what once seemed impossible becomes a reality. We begin to feel better mentally as well as physically and we look better too! So is it with our spiritual lives. As we spend time in God’s word, we begin to take on the mind and character of Christ. We begin to accept God’s word as truth; our faith becomes stronger in Him and we move on to new levels of faith. To get to that place, we have to take God at His word, exercise our “faith muscles” daily and ask God to give us a work-out in Him.

Two examples of men who conquered giants come to mind. The first example is that of Caleb and Joshua: Numbers 13 &14. They acknowledged the giants, but also declared the power of their God, and took possession of the land.

Secondly; David, the boy who became king, was one who knew his God, “A man after God’s own heart” (1Samuel 13:14). He meditated on God’s word, was a worshiper and a warrior. When he went out to fight Goliath, whom all men feared, he went in the strength of the Lord and was victorious! It was just an extension of something he already did on a daily basis and his confidence was in the Lord (1 Samuel 17), not in his own armor or weapons. He could not accept that anyone would defy the army of the Living God!

This week as you hear of concerns that require the power of a miracle working God, don’t shrink back, don’t allow apathy and unbelief to set in. Ask that God would make you a man or woman after His own heart. Ask God to stir up in you the gift of faith, so that you begin to declare His power and might, His heart, for that seemingly impossible situation. Exercise those faith muscles and expect nothing less than what God wants to give you!

There’s a giant in the land … His name is Jesus!
